Every part of Australia is, always was and always will be, Aboriginal land. As a community gathering-place, a festival of arts, cultural exchange and celebration and as a site for the sharing of ideas and stories, Ten Days on the Island pays respect to the palawa – original owners and cultural custodians - of all the lands and waters across lutruwita (Tasmania) upon which our Festival takes place.

Ten Days on the Island is seeking Artists for mapali – Dawn Gathering

Presented by Goldberg Aberline Studio

We are looking for local art enthusiasts, school groups and art groups to participate in online creative workshops with Goldberg Aberline Studios. Creative outcomes from the workshops will be brought to life during mapali – Dawn Gathering.

You will be supplied with all the materials you need to take part, and you don’t need any previous art experience. Participants just need an internet connection and a device to join via video call.

Workshop A – Suitable for ages 16+

Participants will be led through a series of two 1.5 hour online creative expression workshops. Once completed, participants will share their creative outcomes with Goldberg Aberline Studios, who will develop them into textile works that will be brought to life during mapali. These workshops are designed to be fun and dynamic, allowing participants an energizing new experience of their own creativity and imagination, experimenting with from and colour.

Participants will need to be available for two 1.5 hour sessions over the course of three days.
Sessions will be held 21 – 23 December and 9 – 11 January. You can participate as an individual, or as part of an art or school group. These workshops will take place online, so you can participate from your home, school, studio, or wherever you feel comfortable and can get creative.

Workshop B – Suitable for ages 12+

Under the guidance of a facilitator, participants will help to put the finishing touches on some of Goldberg Aberline Studio’s sculptural or costume elements for mapali. Your first session will be supported by an online workshop, then you will encouraged put the finishing touches on the project on your own.

Participation will take place during February, with the finished items required by 26 February. These workshops are suitable for school or art groups with a teacher or leader that can facilitate them.
