Every part of Australia is, always was and always will be, Aboriginal land. As a community gathering-place, a festival of arts, cultural exchange and celebration and as a site for the sharing of ideas and stories, Ten Days on the Island pays respect to the palawa – original owners and cultural custodians - of all the lands and waters across lutruwita/Tasmania upon which our Festival takes place.

Two-time ARIA award-winning singer-songwriter Monique Brumby has borne a catalogue of songs characterised by emotional honesty, beauty and integrity.

Since returning to her home base of Tasmania in 2018, Monique has maintained a busy performance schedule, continuing to create rich, original material whilst contributing to the community as a passionate advocate for social equality and mentor for aspiring artists.

In 2020 Monique embarked on Closer to the Truth, a multi-platform collaboration with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra. This saw the creation of a series of specially commissioned arrangements of selected repertoire spanning her 25-year career as a live performer, music producer and recording artist, including her hit single ‘The Change in Me’ as well as exciting new material. Monique worked with six acclaimed Australian composers to create new arrangements for this ground-breaking collaboration.
