Time Rebel Crosses the Nullarbor
In the months leading up to Ten Days on the Island in 2025, we followed the journey of colourful...
We’re thrilled to share that our design partner, Futago, has been named a finalist in the prestigious BEST Awards for their work on Ten Days on the Island’s 2025 brand identity.
The brief was simple but ambitious: create a visual identity that could cut through the noise of the local and national festival calendar while staying deeply rooted in Tasmania. The result is a luminous, evolving design drawn from the island’s hidden wonders. It features bioluminescent landscapes, the Aurora Australis and the magic of our wildlife, while steering clear of tired clichés . Through great design, creative ideas, innovation and a touch of humour, it captured the story of Festival 2025.
Artist and designer Aldous Kelly shaped the artwork digitally in Procreate, bringing a painter’s instinct and a musician’s sense of rhythm to an illustrative world that feels playful and a little mischievous. Printers Impress Print produced a fluorescent ink cover that replaces standard inks to achieve a genuine glow, while the Futago designers used a digital palette that illuninated on screen and brought the artwork to life.
The process was fully collaborative across our Artistic Director, the designers and marketing, allowing the work to evolve alongside programming choices and the heightened workflow leading up to launch. The result was a design that moves the way a festival moves. It begins quietly, with bright colour fields and a sense of what is coming. As launch approaches, more texture and layers arrive. By festival time, the energy is all the way up.
Working on this brand project was an incredible joy and it was collaboration at its best. To Kate, Dan and the team at Futago, with the indomitable Laura Purcell, who held it all together, artist Aldous Kelly and his crazy worlds, and the fabulous Aaron and Craig at Impress Print, thank you for your quiet, thoughtful ingenuity and creativity.
Congratulations Futago, fingers crossed, you never know, the Tassie team might just win.
