A Tribute to Sir Guy Green: Festival Patron
Last week, Lutruwita/Tasmania lost one of its most dedicated advocates and benefactors of the arts: Sir Guy Green AC...
In the months leading up to Ten Days on the Island in 2025, we followed the journey of colourful presenter on ABC TV’s Gardening Australia, climate activist and sustainability educator Hannah Moloney as she created a new performance work for the program. A highly experienced creative team was brought around her to support the development of her one-woman climate justice cabaret – a live performance that was part life story, part lecture and complete communal celebration through music.
Working alongside Director and Dramaturg Alana Valentine and Music Director Amanda Hodder, as well as design creatives Edith Perrenot and Jason James, the team crafted a night of optimism and information offering us all the means to make a small difference in the world. Local community choirs and young soloists were brought into the work, which toured Hobart, Launceston and Burnie, and was a joyous, inclusive and informative offering.
The production was built with a sustainable design foundation in mind, using recycled materials and costumes and a minimal touring footprint. With local engagement and touring central to the work’s development, we’re thrilled that the production has been picked up by Fremantle Festival: 10 Nights in Port as their opening night performance next month. Hannah’s story of a life of activism will now travel across the Nullarbor, bringing her message of individual and collective power to new audiences, while sharing a distinctly Tasmanian story.
Ten Days on the Island is committed to elevating Tasmanian stories and helping them reach beyond our shores. It’s a challenge for artists here, not just the personal and creative demands of making work, but the added weight of distance and cost that comes with being an islander. Supporting work like Time Rebel is part of our mission to ensure these stories are heard, seen and celebrated.
We wish Hannah, Alana, Amanda and the Time Rebel team a most successful and enjoyable reception in Fremantle. Chookas!
